The three of us were sitting at the Chinese buffet digging in to our second plate of egg rolls. Well, The Boy was. For his $8.50, he'll eat roughly his weight in eggs rolls, chicken balls, french fries and onion rings. It's what passes for food on those nights when you're starving and you can't face the kitchen. We do this more often than I care to admit.
At the table next to us, a family of four accompanied by four boys roughly who look to be, in the early teens. They certainly got their money's worth. Those boys could EAT. But I couldn't help but notice the debate going on between the boy in the Motorhead shirt, and the guy in the surfer shirt. They were going and on about The Who, and after determining that Elton John's Champ was probably the best, they went to have a rather serious discussion about which album was the best. (The verdict was split but leaning towards Quadrophenia.) I'll be honest, I know virtually nothing about The Who.
I must admit, I was filled with hope -- perhaps they aren't all worried about whose disco stick Lady Gaga is riding. And, I was tempted if only for a moment to go over with a list of great albums they'll need to hear... I decided it would be weird to have a mom from the next table talk to them about music, and how if you like this maybe you'll like that. You know? But then I suppose the discovery is half the fun.
So tell me, what are you listening to?
