Take it and Run Thursday: 10 Commandments
The lovely and talented gang at the Runner's Lounge (Amy and Tom) are hosting Take it and Run Thursdays. Today's topic is Running Basics. Definitely worth checking out. So go but read this first. Because I am vain like that
It's no secret that I love running, and fundamentally what drew me to the sport was how simple it is. It really doesn't matter where I am, if I pack my running shoes I am good to go. It's simple. Back in November, I posted a list of 10 commandments of marathon training but I think it applies to the discipline of running in general so I rechristened the tablets.
Nat's 10 Commandments of Running
1. Thou shall not be a pansy-ass, thou shall puteth on thy running tights and go. Remember that thou will feeleth better once it is done. Thou may be a pansy-ass and not runneth in: cases of extreme sickness or injury, freezing rain, sleet, hail or weather colder than -30. (On short run days, thou shall runneth on a treadmill and thou shall tryeth not to feel like a hamster. For long runs, thou will rejig thy schedule.)
2. Thou shall eat right and taketh thy vitamins and thou shall have a bit of chocolate EVERY day.
3. Thou shall be courteous to other runners and say thank you to many course volunteers.
4. Thou shall be courteous to cyclist, and motorist unless they behaveth tres badly. Then thou shall giveth them the finger and swear.
5. Thou shall singeth along with songs on the iPOD, EVEN if thou singeth loudly and off key. Then thou will worketh a bit harder.
6. Thou shall chargeth they running gizmos and props right after thine run. Lest thou end up running with low grade technology.
7. Thou shall covet new gear.
8. Thou shall appreciate good stories of thy running buddies and share thine own.
9. Thou shall only gently ogle the scenery. (Often in the shape of other "better" runners.)
10. Thou shall find one moment in every run that remindeth thou, why thou runneth. And thou will smile and enjoy the ride.

Fabulous! These are great, and I think we all think these things. I loved numbers 5 and 6 especially!

Nat, you are a natural-born commandment writer!
These need to be carved in stone tablets and placed in every running store.
My favorites are #4 & #10
Thanks!

How can one not follow a list of commandments that starts with "Thou shall not be a pansy-ass. Yep... squirted coffee right out my nose on that one...
Poetry... pure poetry. Call Moses... we have tablets to chisel...
