This is a race report as part of the 8 on the 8th challenge. I actually ran the 8 on the first before we left for our whirlwind trip to Newfoundland. (No Labrador. Next time.) I started tracking my distance on Aug. 15, 2007 using Run Logger on Facebook. This run marked another milestone. I hit the 800 mile mark.
I was a slow 8, with a time of something like 1h47. After negotiating with the race director. It was decided that running on the first would be ok. In honour of the upcoming trip and the two UNESCO World Heritage sites, I'd be visiting. I ran along the Rideau Canal. I was going to take some photos but forgot the camera. Instead of running towards downtown, I ran across the locks (I think it may actually be the one featured in the photo, definitely that set of locks -- or the one a step up.)
As I recall it was an ok run. A bit on the slow side but accomplished my training plan goal of a 13:27 miles (or close to, for seven miles.) I decided that I would not worry about training during the trip.
On the 8th, well, we hiked for a total of 11kms -- 5 of those on the earths mantle. Millions of years ago, when the African and North American Plates shifted to create the continents, the earth's mantle was pushed up. Instead of receding, as it did in many cases, it stayed behind. (At least, this is my Cole's notes version of what happened.)
Then we went to Western Pond, and went for a boat ride. (At the end of a 3-km walk.) Saw some moose (meese? mooses?) along the way, and felt really really small...
I remember doing these trips way back when and feeling completely whooped by all the physical activity. Now, I just do it, I feel worse from being cooped up in the car all day.
I'll be home and running again on the 18th. I'll touch base then. Unless I get out and run out here. (Might happen.)

Hope you're enjoying the vacation. Way to go on your run!

Great shots. Thanks for putting up a report. Glad I just checked. I am finally just about through this beast. Remind me next time how much time these damn things take. :D
Hope you are having a fantastic time. Thanks for running early.
