Feels like a long time since my last post. I seem to have caught a case of the busies which inevitably leads to a major outbreak of the scattereds. Le sigh. (Also a common cold.)
It always surprises me how all of a sudden it's fall. We've crossed from sandals and light weight skirts back into suits, sweaters, pants, and the dreaded socks. I had to laugh at Britt's admissions that she loves tights*. I myself, am a barefoot kind of girl. No shoes. No socks.** One of the things I love about summer is the slip on sandals. Summer is all about take-off-and-go. Grab the purse, the kid, the car keys and go. Even if it's just up to the Dairy Queen on Merivale. Fall is so full of responsibilities. We all get back to the serious business at hand. And I miss the freedom. Shoes, boots, coats, mittens, hats, enough time to think twice about the what you're about to do -- even if it is only a Beavertail*** on the Canal.
Up here we sort stumble right into cold weather and fall. All of a sudden there you are. If my Mac's dashboard applet is to be believed its 10C/50F outside (at 7 p.m.), it's going down to 3C/37F tonight with "a risk of frost in low-lying areas." Three is very close to zero which is when we get snow. Last week we were very comfortably in shorts, I think I may have worn a tank top even. Tonight the fire is raging in the fire place, I have big thick wool socks on, jeans, and a sweatshirt.
It's cold but psychologically we aren't ready to turn the heat on. It's like admitting defeat. It may go back to the low teens yet. Still the voice on the radio recommended that the most of the leaves will have fallen by the end of the weekend. Catch them while you can... (still looking for the right light.)
I love how clean everything is in winter. I love the quiet runs early in the morning. I love how it all just comes together. Still one needs to be ready. Coats, boots, snowsuits, and yes tights for me. Closed shoes. Alas. But the fire is soothing and warming up the living room.
This weekend, well, much to prepare for. It's windy and there is a change brewing. But sitting her with a hot fire, a warm laptop -- I just wish summer and fall would mingle and stay here for a little bit longer...
_____
*Why do they sell tights in Florida?
**Unless I'm running in which case it's ONLY Brooks Ariel's in a 9.5B and a Wright socks.
***That is rather pathetic looking Beavertail in that image.
I also look forward to cooler weather. Alas in Phoenix, I have a little while to wait still. But, I'll have you know, being able to wear tights is my favorite part of the year bar none.

At 10C I would be breaking out the thermal underwear, but then I am a wimpy sun-seeking Aussie. If it gets to 15C in Sydney everyone gets in a panic about how cold it is. We are the opposite end of the spectrum to you right now - yesterday it was 35C. Too hot, too soon. I also wish the seasons like spring or autumn would linger a while longer.

It only just felt cooler and more like fall today. It's been broiling here. I don't like the heat, but I'm defo a flip flop girl. Give me a pair flips and a great pedicure and I'm good to go even if it's 60 outside.

We admitted defeat last night and put on the furnace. I told The Huz that if the internal temperature doesn't drop, then the furnace won't go on. I woke up to hearing the woosh. I was hoping to go another week, at least until Thanksgiving.
I expect I still have another month before I have to have all the toys gathered from the yard, and get the plants moved for Spring blooming. Well, I hope so anyway because this weekend is a trip to Laundry Mountain, with maybe a stop-over at Hibernation Nap-for-ma Valley. (It was a very rough night.)

Ya, it kind of turned autumn in one week. Last week we were still in shorts, then Saturday the leave started falling. I leave the heat off and the windows open until the snow starts drifting in. I do have to put on socks, though.

I am still rocking the flip flops. I just can't let them go just yet LOL. Although we did put on the heat today, go figure HAHA

I am definitely a barefoot kind of girl. The only socks that I own are worn with athletic shoes. I have a few pairs of tights now to be worn with skirts in the colder months. The first thing I do when walking in the door at the end of the day is to kick off whatever is on my feet.

We had such a dreadful Summer that the change in season hasn't really been too noticable. It's rained, mostly, for months! The leaves have started to change now and the Virginia Creeper growing up the front of my house has started dropping so I guess Autumn is really here. It has also suddenly got bloody cold brrrrrrr!

It was a dreadful summer, wasn't it? Usually in London we get some sizzling weeks (the summer of 2005 was disgusting), but this year it was cool and rainy with a few exceptions.
Since I'm in Columbus now, we've managed to stave off the cold weather somewhat. The temps are down quite a bit from a week ago, but overnight lows are still around 10C.

This morning, as I waited for the car heater to defrost the windshield, it occurred to me that it's time to put the bikes in the basement so I can park the car in the garage. Sigh.

We're not ready to turn the heat on either, but I did have the fireplace going briefly last night. I HATE wearing shoes. Or socks. Unless they're uber fluffy soft socks and it's freezing. Then there is something rather comforting about the whole thing. I'm fine with Fall and Winter, because of the change - I need it. But at the same time? I hear you. Makes us feel like we're supposed to be more responsible.
